Curtis Yeomans

TYBEE ISLAND- Curtis Eugene Yeomans, 77, died September 3, 2010.
Curtis was born June 6, 1933 on Barnard Street in Savannah, GA to Coy and Estelle Davis Yeomans. At an early age he became a member of Bull Street Baptist Church and Rev. Wilder was an inspiration to the young Curtis. Later as a member of the Jefferson Athletic Club, Curtis assumed such duties as Chief in charge of the Ice Cream Fountain and Do Not Drop the Pool Cue. If you drop the stick you get the paddle.
As time passed Curtis played basketball and was #15 on a fourteen man team at Savannah High School. Curtis loved Savannah High and graduated with the class of 1951.
The Navy called and like many of his friends he enlisted. Curtis aspired to become a hospital corpsman. Curtis was made for the job as he was kind, strong, testy, and most always a friend.
Upon returning he became a student at South Georgia College and after returning to Savannah began a career he seemed to love at Build-A-Rama.
After retiring his life was centered around Tybee Island where he had many, many friends.
Curtis became a Bumper Pool aficionado at Docs Bar on Tybee. People from around the world would search for Curtis to show them the rudiments of the game.
Curtis was a member of Bull Street Baptist Church, the American Legion, the Jefferson Athletic Club, and the Atlanta Peachtree Lodge #59, F&AM.
All of this was very important to Curtis. More so was his great friend Kathleen Tuten and her family.
He is survived by his cousin, Curtis Davis Linda, and his nephew, Peter Evans. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward K. Evans.
Then there was Jack, the terrier, the real companion of Curtis' last 17 years. Jack was his best friend. He must have been as no one else could get inside. It was all about the love.
A Celebration of Curtis' Life will be held from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm on Sunday, September 19, 2010 at Doc's Bar, #10 Tybrisa St., Tybee Island.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Julian Sipple, Robert Simpson, Joe Inglesby, Michael Leonard, Billy Hayslip, and Henry Schroeder.
Memorials may be made to the Humane Society, 7215 Sallie Mood Dr., Savannah, GA 31406.

GUEST BOOK

Curtis has slipped away from us...'The end of an era'. One of the last of the old guard regulars at Doc's Bar has left the Island. Heck, he wasn't just a regular, he was a Doc's Bar icon. Everyone knew him. Everyone liked him, and now, everyone will miss him terribly. I know I will! Shucks, who else is going to take Georgia Tech over Georgia every single year. Goodbye old friend and God speed. Oh, and Curtis, when you get there, save me a seat near you at the bar.
